Hollywood’s Imperialism![]() To a different twist, as some scholars and religious analysts have illustrated, Hollywood has also subtly managed to distort the belief in the ultimate and awaited savior. As moral corruption and depravity plague the west, people are coming to realize that their only hope is the savior—whoever it maybe. Since this belief in the savior and the events of the end of times (i.e. Armageddon) is so powerful and hope-inspiring, some scholars and religious analysts argue, Hollywood has made the effort to weaken such beliefs. Hollywood and media companies associated with it produce about 700 movies and films year, which accounts for 78% of all movies. Hollywood makes a profit of about 15 billion dollars a year. Last year only, 23 movies were nominated for the Oscars Award. Nineteen of these movies, in one way or another, deal with or subtly address an issue related to the end of times and the end of the world, according to some scholars and religious analysts. The Matrix is a conspicuous example of Hollywood’s efforts to weaken the belief in the savior and the end of times. Analyzing this movie, one can notice that it is presents another solution or alternative to the reform and justice the awaited savior will bring. In doing so, it undermines the belief that the world’s only hope is the savior. |
